Florida Building Contractor License

A Florida Building Contractor (CBC) means a contractor whose services are limited to construction of commercial and residential buildings, including remodeling, renovation and repair, which do not exceed three stories in height. Building Contractors in Florida can directly engage in the construction of every component of the building structure (i.e. Concrete, Structural Steel, Framing, Painting, Tile, etc.) except the major specialty trades like Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical, and Roofing on projects that do not exceed three stories in height. A Building Contractor must subcontract this type of work to licensed contractors in those trades. When a Building Contractor submits a permit application for the construction of a new building, he/she must include the license information of the Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical, and other specialty contractors who will be involved in the project as subcontractors. A Florida Building Contractor can provide non-structural repairs, remodeling and renovations to any commercial or residential building, regardless of height. The three story limitation only applies to structural work and new construction.
